Bulbophyllum baucoense was originally described by Ames in Orchidacea 5: page 166 in 1915. This species inhabits the islands of Bauco, Bontoc, and Luzon in the Philippines. The specific epitaph translates to "lives in Bauco". There are some discussion in the literature that this species may be just a smaller version of B. pulchrum or B. longiflorum. Dr. Garay (1994) moved this species from Bulbophyllum to the reinstated genus of Cirrhopetalum, where it now resides as Cirrhopetalum baucoense.
