Phalaenopsis violacea |
Culture Legend Temp: W-I |
Phal. violacea is native to Malay Peninsula, into the islands of Sumatra and Borneo, where it grows as an epiphyte. The plants are fast growing and are easy to grow. The Sumatran strain produces long lasting, fragrant flowers. Fragrance has been described as the scent of bubble gum with a hint of cinnamon. The flower spikes often rebloom year after year. Low light from 700 to 1500 foot candles is ideal, such as a diffused east exposure for window sill culture. This plant does well under artificial light culture. They prefer warm temps above 65 degrees Fahrenheit. They really thrive and grow with a summer temperatures are in the mid 80s to low 90s, which is closer to their natural habitat temperatures.
